The Chamber Choir KALEV
The Chamber Choir Kalev was founded in 1998 under
the name of Chamber Choir Havera, so that a group of enthusiastic
singers could enjoy themselves while performing music to high standards.
Since autumn 2000, the choir is related to Estonian Confectionary
Kalev, the best in Scandinavia in our minds, who is contributing
to the choir. During that period many singers from other renowned
active choirs and also capable choir voices broken back to singing-field
from retirement have joined us. There are around forty of us in
the choir sharing a true love of the choral art. The membership
spans an age of 20-50.
Every season the choir performs at a number of
concerts at major Tallinn venues and in churches around Estonia.
A traditional Gala concert takes place annually. We also organize
a couple of singing camps every season. Besides that also at least
one trip to abroad.
From the International Festival in Llangollen,
Wales we brought home the 3rd prize in the category of mixed choirs
in 2001. From the singing competition "Kristalnaja Lira"
of professional choirs in Gus Kristalnõi, Russia we returned
with the laureate-worth diploma and matter-of-factly the 2nd place
in 2002. In 2003 we obtained the 1st prize of the A-category from
the national singing competition "Tuljak" in Tartu, Estonia
and in 2005 we got the fourth place in 23rd Internacional Music
Festival de Cantonigros in Spain. Concert tours have taken us to
Great Britain, Russia, Latvia, Croatia, Finland, United States,
Spain, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.
The choir music selection is from different periods
of time and of various styles. Our repertoire consists of Estonian
folk music, classical masterpieces, old music and contemporary pieces.
The conductor of the choir is Erki Meister. He
has been conducting the choir since its foundation.
